Course target

Development of knowledge and skills in structured LAN cabling networks and related technologies, including an overview of standards, technical regulations, and measurement methods.

  • Anyone whose job responsibilities involve local area network (LAN) design.
At Course Completion you will be able to:
  • Understand and describe the components involved in LAN network design – computer and telephone network equipment, video surveillance, electrical and optical cabling networks, uninterruptible power supplies, etc.
  • Develop a simplified LAN network design project.

  1. Structure and Components of a Structured Cabling Network
    Cables: copper/electrical and optical, outlets, connectors, cable trays, patch panels, cabinets, etc.
  2. Fundamentals of Ethernet Technology
    Ethernet network equipment: switches, routers.
  3. Power Supply for Network Equipment, PoE, UPS
  4. Active LAN Network Equipment (solutions using a LAN network)
    Computer network and equipment: computers, servers, printers, etc.
    Telephone network and equipment: PBX, POTS/ISDN, and VoIP.
    Video surveillance, door access control, security systems, etc.
  5. Test and Measurement Equipment for Structured Cabling Network Certification
  6. Practical Work – LAN Network Project (project development and presentation).
